But, at the same time, it can make some very odd decisions. In combat, it inflicts the nastiest damage it seems capable of inflicting, preferring heroes and units that you really don't want to lose. It will never sit back and wait while you recover. The AI has been built in such a way that it provides a challenge, with a few odd side effects. The AI design is genius, while the AI itself is ruthless and singleminded. (The title was meant to be provacative, not insulting by the way) Anyone who can help me understand how it works please send me to school. Being a player who seldom strays away from single player games, AI that acts almost like a human opponent fascinates. It's puzzling to me that the AI could act as ruthless and cunning as a human player one minute, then do something so utterly dumb the next. Nope, they shot the strongest remaining enemy unit. I thought well of course the archer unit will shoot the weakened unit removing it from battle. First volley exchanged, one enemy unit down to a few HP left. Later on, as I got tired I autoplayed a battle and watched closely. Which allowed me to swoop in and take one of his cities to the north (thanks!). Given the defensive position, I figured oh well the AI is too smart for this and will retreat. Last night I watched as one AI player approached my allies city, surrounded it at an advantage, only for the ally to reinforce and make the numbers even. Now recently, as I take greater control over every action I notice some peculiar.glitches. My AI opponents would swoop in and attack cities without warning or mercy, ignore easy targets left open on purpose as distraction, and cause me grief endlessly. Lazy, I know, but in my condition (buzzing hard) it was probably the better decision. I find it an amazing achievement.Īt some points particularly early on I would let the AI control battles. Lots of lines of code stating IF>condition, then# or something like that for hundreds and thousands of lines. This was much to my delight, and I thought "Oh man, some folks put some serious effort in designing this!" And, not being a programmer or designer myself, I would certainly say whoever designed the AI here is a brilliant mind. Early on in my struggles to learn the ropes I encountered savage, agressive attacks from the AI.
